Emotions are to some extent the more subjective elements of consciousness, because only you can tell if you are really experiencing love, shame, gratitude, or happiness. However, an emotion is more objective content of the mind, because our visceral feeling when we are in love, ashamed, scared or happy is usually more real to us than what we see in the external world or anything to learn from science or logic. Thus, we often find ourselves in the paradoxical position of acting as behavioral psychologists when we look at others rejecting what they say and trusting only in what they do, while when we observe ourselves are like phenomenologists, as we take our feelings internal more seriously than external events or overt actions.
